We are currently seeking a Procurement Engineer Summer Intern enrolled in an Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil) or in a Construction degree program to work out of our Arlington, Virginia office. This is position will allow individuals to gain valuable experience in the international construction industry, specifically in the construction of U.S. Embassies abroad. A secret level security clearance is required for this position; candidates must be able to obtain a secret clearance if they do not already have one.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:  Assists the primary coordinator of all US material procurement, engineering, and design efforts for a specific project.  Assist in the integration of design efforts into construction execution.           

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the preparation of project deliverables, in the development of a project bill of materials and preparation of packages and issues for supplier quotation.
  • Performs Procurement engineering evaluation, commercial grade dedication, and item equivalency evaluations in support of site operations, maintenance and engineering departments
  • Compares prices, specifications, and delivery dates in order to determine the best bid among AICI
  • Tracks the status of requisitions, contracts, and orders
  • Contacts suppliers in order to schedule or expedite deliveries and to resolve shortages, missed or late deliveries, and other problems.
  • Prepares, maintains, and reviews procurement files, reports and price lists.
  • Builds up a portfolio of approved suppliers
  • Receives and produces comparative analysis of material quotations. 
  • Performs material take-offs.
  • Develop and maintain supplier, subcontractor, and client relations.
  • Performs any other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, AND SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Enrolled in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil) or Construction degree program from an accredited institution
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected
  • Excellent computer skills, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent planning, organizational, verbal and written communication skills
  • Works independently
  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks
  • Courteous, professional, diplomatic.  High level of confidentiality
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be able to obtain, and maintain a Department of Defense security clearance

PHYSICAL JOB DEMANDS: Reaching above and below, stooping and bending.  Lifting/carrying/moving 1 to 15 pounds of weight in the form of paper, boxes, files, etc.  Manual dexterity to operate office equipment, filing, and perform specialized skills.  Requires a high degree of concentration in a busy office environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Office environment.  Flexibility with hours is required.
